Okay, I will be the first one to admit, I don’t like the gym. It’s not that I don’t like working out, I just don’t like to work out by myself in front of a bunch of hot, sweaty strangers. I know that there are a few of you out there who feel the same way. So what do we do about this little predicament? We can’t just live a sedentary life because that’s what illnesses and obesity feeds off of.
Well, I’ll tell you what I do: I get active. Just because I don’t go to the gym, doesn’t mean that I’m not exercising. There are some great, fun activities that you can do to stay fit and healthy. There aren’t any gym memberships involved and it can all be personalized to your schedule and your needs.
For the gamers, why not try:
- A dodgeball league
- LARPing (Live Action Role Play – look for a community near you)
- Ballet
- Bowling
For the outdoorsy types, why not try:
- Hiking
- Rock-climbing
- Canoeing
- Boating
For the people who like to exercise alone:
- Jogging, running, or walking (outside or on a treadmill)
- Swimming
- Get an exercise DVD
- Play a round of Disc Golf
For the social butterflies:
- Laser Tag
- Volleyball
- Soccer
- Join an aerobics class
For the lovebirds, try one of these activities with your significant other:
- Ice skating
- Playing catch
- Bicycling
- Dancing
The key is to do at least one of those activities for at least five days a week. Try to spend at least a half an hour playing, exercising, or having fun (whatever you want to call it).
